Application Process
We have streamlined the study abroad application process into clear, manageable steps. Our team guides you through each stage to maximize your chances of admission.
Check Eligibility & Prepare (July-August)
Verify you meet all criteria: citizenship, work experience, and academic background. Start identifying your 3 preferred UK Masters programs. Begin drafting your 4 Chevening essays (each 500 words). Chevening applications typically open in August and close in November.
Submit Online Application (August-November)
Complete the Chevening application at chevening.org. The application includes: personal details, work experience, academic history, 3 university choices, and 4 essays: 1) Leadership and influence, 2) Networking, 3) Study in the UK, 4) Career plan. Each essay should demonstrate your impact, vision, and connection to Nepal's development. The essays are the most important component.
Shortlisting & Interview (January-March)
Chevening shortlists applicants based on the written application. If shortlisted, you are invited to an interview at the British Embassy in Kathmandu. The interview panel evaluates your leadership, communication skills, career vision, and connection to Nepal. Common questions: How will this Masters benefit Nepal? What is your 5-year career plan? Give an example of your leadership.
Secure University Offers (February-June)
While awaiting Chevening results, you must apply to your 3 chosen UK universities and receive unconditional offers from at least one. Most Chevening applicants apply to universities in parallel with the Chevening application. You need an unconditional offer by the Chevening deadline (usually July).
Receive Chevening Offer (June-July)
Successful candidates are notified by email. Accept the offer, confirm your university choice, and sign the scholarship agreement. Chevening coordinates with your chosen university to arrange your enrollment and CAS.
Pre-Departure & UK Arrival (August-September)
Attend the Chevening pre-departure briefing in Kathmandu. Process your Student visa (Chevening provides documentation). Receive stipend and travel arrangements. Arrive in the UK for the September intake and attend the Chevening Orientation in London — a networking event with all incoming Chevening scholars.
Costs & Scholarships
Understanding the financial commitment is crucial for planning your study abroad journey. Here is a breakdown of typical costs and available funding options.
Chevening covers the full tuition fee for your chosen Masters program, regardless of the amount. This means you can choose expensive programs at top universities (£30,000-45,000) without financial concern. The tuition is paid directly by Chevening to the university.
Chevening provides a monthly living allowance: approximately £1,195/month for outside London, £1,516/month for London (rates adjusted annually). This covers rent, food, transport, and personal expenses. Additional allowances: one-off arrival allowance, homeward departure allowance, and thesis/dissertation grant. The stipend is enough to live comfortably in most UK cities.
Total Chevening package value for 1-year Masters: £40,000-70,000+ (NPR 65 lakh-1.15 crore). Components: tuition (uncapped), living allowance (£10,755-13,644/year), return economy airfare (Kathmandu-UK), excess baggage allowance, arrival allowance, homeward departure allowance, thesis/dissertation grant, and study travel grant. Chevening is one of the most generous scholarship programs in the world.
